Lightspirit13 (Kneeling in center, wearing scarf) poses with Mark and Debby Constantino, groups: 3AM Paranormal, APRA Paranormal, LA Paranormal; and Stacey Jones, Moebanshee, Gian Temperilli and the Dragon Man among others.

On September 11, 2009, I had the honor and the privelege to be included in a private ghost hunt led by Mark and Debby Constantino on Alcatraz Island. Because all of my previous experiences with the Constantinos were so profound, I cut short a European vacation to be present and flew directly to San Francisco from JFK Airport in New York to join the group. I could not carry much equipment with me to collect evidence. Therefore, what I will share with you is not evidence but a description of just a few of my experiences.

The Constantinos, as well as the groups and other individuals, collected some solid evidence. We have included one video here by 3AM Paranormal, which could also be found on YouTube. This video is extremely good and truly captures the flavor of my experiences as well.

We took a private ferry to the island and began by seeing a video on the history of Alcatraz and the life of the men. What struck me while viewing that video was a quote by a former inmate who said that on the day of his release, he was scared as he stood in San Francsisco. Everyone had somewhere to go in that busy metropolis but him. I wondered as I watched the video if the same feeling of being disoriented overcame some at the time of death, because their lives had been structured for so long.

The life of the inmate was highly regulated and quite monotonous. There was no incentive for good behavior only punishment for bad. Everything seemed designed to break the spirit of the individual, most likely for safety, as well as control. Even Al Capone was known to have said that Alcatraz had gotten to him. Inmates who created problems for themselves in the general population were moved to the Treatment Unit Cell Blocks, where freedom became even more restricted. (This is also where our group slept; each individual was given a cell.)

We were also given a behind-the-scenes tour by Federal Rangers and given additional insight into the lives of both the men and the staff who lived on the island. I was surprised to find that family members, including children also lived there. The children took the ferry to San Francisco to go to school. I later found out that on a previous investigation of Alcatraz, Mark and Debby encountered both female and child ghosts as well as male ghosts.

Because I was not with a group, I mostly stayed with the Constantinos during their recording of EVP’s. As with all my experiences with the Constantinos, almost immediately I witnessed the collecting of strong evidence and increaed my understanding as to why entites remained ghosts instead of crossing into the light.

Part of the structure was left over from the Civil War, when Alcatraz Island functioned as a fort to protect San Francisco. In the sallieport area, there was also a dungeon where prisoners were temporarily held. I hiked down there with the Constantinos and two members of APRA Paranormal Association because last year, the Constantinos had conversed there with a female ghost. When we got down there, the questioning began. On playback, the first EVP to come across was a very strong, graspy voice demanding, “Respect.” We immediately left the area.

As a former corrections nurse, I had a special interest in the medical facilities which were a hotbed of paranormal activity. We were told that the medical facillities were often seen as a break for the inmates from the grueling and monotonous routine. I know this remains true today.

There were cells in the back of the facillity which held hospital beds. Investigators from APRA Paranormal conducted an EVP session there and asked a ghost whether he saw the medical facilities as a break. The EVP he played back for the Constantinos was “F___g faggot.” At the same time, the investigator asking the question felt an agrressive rush of dark energy under the rim of his baseball cap. I believe this is because the ghost was still in inmate mode and took it to imply that he couldn’t handle life on the blocks and was faking an illness. Should something like this get out to other inmates, he would have had difficulties on the blocks. He felt obligated to display his “toughness” to the investigator.

In the Operating Room, the Constantinos asked if a surgeon was present by name, who was present the previous year. The answer came back, “No. We don’t like it when he is around.” Mark asked whether we could help them or answer anything for them and the response came very loud and abuptly, “How are you gonna fix this?” Debby asked whether they stayed on the Island or went on the ferry or mingled with the tourists in San Francisco. “I hate the damn ferry.” was the answer.

At one point during our time in the Operating Room, we decided to place two K-II meters next to my EMF meter (Mel Meter) during the recording of EVPs. I noted that at no time did the two K-II meters register anything while the EMF gave a base reading of 2.5 and during the height of the EVPs went up to 5.6, returning to 2.5 at the end of the recording. Because I could hear the spirit activity on the recorders during the playback, I am becoming less impressed with K-IIs as an indicator of spirit activity.

We were joined by other investigators who also received requests for help in the Operating Room earlier in the night. There was not much response to questions about whether they prayed or believed in God.

Later, still in the OR, an investigator brought out her Shack Hack. Many voices confirmed they were ghosts rather than spirits. When asked who was present in the room, I heard my spirit guide’s name. I am a neophyte ghost hunter but have been a light worker for over a decade. When I heard my guide’s name, I called him in and silently helped some cross into the light. I cannot prove this but did feel a lot of wonderful energy come back to me and no longer felt cold. Furthermore, the activity got very quiet in there and we moved to another area.

If you have never been on a ghost hunt, the cold is one that cannot be mimicked by the subdegree weather in Philadelphia, where I grew up. I felt this in a most pronounced way in another room that was very narrow, and contained some type of storage cabinets, which we entered toward the end of the night. It was then for the first time that I learned what spine-tingling also meant. It was a cold goose-bump tingling that started at the base of my skull and went down my spine.

In that narrow room, we seem to have made contact with both a male and a female. They repeatedly asked for help, at one point saying it in a chorus. It seemed like they were a bit afraid of us and we introduced ourselves one at a time. After being introduced to Stacey Jones, Ghost Cop, the male said, “I hate her.” This was most likely because she was a member of law enforcement prior to becoming a full-time paranormal investigator and he had been an inmate in life.

At one point, their energy became very intense and Debby noticed it by the door to the right. There I saw swirling mists from the floor to the ceiling, spanning out approximately five feet wide. I asked them if they believed that God was merciful and would forgive them, if they left and went to heaven. The answer came back, “No.” I tried to hold my guide’s energy for them the way I did in the Operating Room but I was very tired and jet lagged and they didn’t seem to know what to do with it the few moments I tried. What came back on the EVP was, “Help her help us….” from the male. I am very sorry that I was so tired at the time and did not have the words to instruct them as we were finishing up the night.

This was only my fourth ghost hunt–the third with the Constantinos. Each time I have been with the Constantinos, the evidence has been so powerful, I no longer feel the need to prove to myself the existence of ghosts in a location that has already been documented as “haunted.” I feel the need to develop a way to counsel them and to help them move on if they wish. I am seeking all suggestions from anyone with experience.
