TAPS investigators Dave Tango and Steve Gonsalves.

Building upon the enormous success of Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International that has made it the top cable network on Wednesdays at 9 PM among Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, Syfy is launching Ghost Hunters Academy, premiering Wednesday, November 11.

Kicking off with an investigation at Fort Mifflin, Pennsylvania, Ghost Hunters Academy features a group of aspiring ghost hunters exploring some of the most haunted locations in the country and around the world. Led by veteran ghost hunters Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango, the students train, hands on, in the paranormal arts.

The new recruits venture outside conventional classroom walls tackling new paranormal hotspots as well as favorite old haunts from Ghost Hunters including Fort Mifflin (Pennsylvania), Eastern State Penitentiary (Pennsylvania), and St. Augustine Lighthouse (Florida).

By passing the course, students can graduate into investigating on Ghost Hunters or Ghost Hunters International.

Guest Investigator Meat Loaf on Ghost Hunters

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

The TAPS team talks about the investigation with Meat Loaf during a Q & A session at Fort Mifflin in June. The episode is scheduled to air Wednesday, September 30th.

NOTE FROM LIGHTSPIRIT13: I am really looking forward to this episode. This question was answered prior to the Fort Mifflin Ghost Hunt, at which I was present, and elicited a highly enthusiastic response from the team.

Paranormal Activity at Fort Mifflin during Ghost Hunters’ Investigation

Ghost Hunters crew investigates Philadelphia's Fort Mifflin on June 26th and June 27th, 2009.

Fans ask the Ghost Hunters crew questions prior to heading out on investigation of Fort Mifflin.

On June 26, 2009, I had the privilege of attending the Fort Mifflin investigation with the cast of Ghost Hunters, along with John Zaffis and Gavin Cromwell.

I did not feel that the activity was as heavy as it was at Waverly Hills but did have several interesting experiences. My main ghost hunting tool was my Shack Hack.

The Shack Hack is an AM/FM radio, set on the AM frequencies, with a scanner, which has been “hacked” so that it keeps jumping across the AM stations. It allows a ghost or spirit to choose among frequencies to form its words in response to the ghost hunter’s questions. The questions can be spoken aloud or telepathically. I used mine with headphones so as not to disturb other investigators. They can also be used with speakers so that a group can hear the answers.

We were divided up into groups. I started in the tunnel where William Howell was imprisoned. I did not sense much activity in the tunnels, nor was there much activity on the K-II meter that Jason Hawes placed among us. Several of the group asked questions to evoke a response. No responses came on the K-II meters or the shack Hack, while I was present.

I left the group early and wandered over to the outdoor cannons where I thought I saw shadows. I asked if anyone was present and got a response, “Two.” I asked why they stayed here. The response came, “To aim at the enemy.” I could get no further conversation, as they seemed intent on their duties or they disappeared.

The soldiers’ barracks was quiet, even though I sat in the same spot where Tango said his father saw a shadowy figure. I joined a group in the Officer’s quarters, where they attempted to converse with someone named Elizabeth. I am unaware as to whether the group got any EVP responses to their questions but when they asked whether she was afraid of them, I heard a distinct, “Yes” through my Shack Hack headphones, in a very timid female voice.

My best experience was at the stable. There, John Zaffis met our group outside the entrance and said that each group had made contact with a spirit named Mark. He said that he had a Shack Hack set up for the group and that some women should be close to the speakers as he seemed to prefer women. I asked John if we knew the timeframe of Mark’s life and John said that he thought spirits got confused at times, when asked to name dates.

I grabbed the bench right next to the speakers. John started off the session by calling out to Mark and asking if he was still there. He was. John then encouraged the group to ask questions.

I asked Mark what his job was at the Fort. His answer, “Kitchen.” As the group called out questions, we learned that Mark had several sons and daughters, one son who occasionally worked there. John said that the information regarding the number of children was consistent across groups. He told us their names. Myra was the mother of his children.

John said our group was learning the most about Mark. Mark was black and had been a slave. Myra was sold away from the family.  He was happy to learn that slavery ended but did not seem to care as much that we now had a black president. Someone asked if he knew George Washington. His response showed surprise and was a bit sarcastic, “Who me?” John said at times Mark had an attitude with the other groups. Mark did NOT like the British.

I asked him if he was treated fairly at the Fort. He was. I asked him if he wanted to stay there. He was waiting for the return of Myra and did not want to go anywhere. He did not reply to being told that she was dead. Someone thought that another spirit came in and tried to talk to, or about, a “Webster.” Mark came in with a “Jealous.” He admitted to being jealous of us wanting to talk to anyone else. He admitted to being lonely.

I asked if there was anything that we could do for him. The answer was “No.” He believed in God and heaven. I asked him how he saw us, “As lights.” At this point there was a lot of static and it was also time to end the session.

I felt a kinship with Mark, who was lonely as he waited for his wife of so long ago. There was nothing that he wanted, he said he was not unhappy. I thanked Mark in my heart for talking to us and I pray he finds peace.
