“Brad Klinge of Ghost Lab didn’t find his abrasive provoking style as effective as usual in the investigation of both the Lemp and McPike Mansions.”

Ghost Lab – Under the Skin

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

MEDIUM LYNNE OLSON REFLECTS ON THE EPISODE.

Ghost Lab Under the skin tatoo

Chicago’s Old Town Tatu occupies space that operated as Klemundt Funeral Parlor for 75 years. In 2003 Richie “Tapeworm” Herrea bought the place and opened as Odin Tatu named after his son. He lived in an apartment above the tattoo parlor. Sadly he died in that apartment in 2006 of congestive heart failure. Some of his friends and former employees banded together to reopen the shop.

It is commonly believed that although Richie died he never left his beloved shop and home. Throw in the fact of the buildings prior history and even before his death, Richie had paranormal experiences on the premises. In his upstairs apartment a wooden door that led off his living room had a habit of opening and closing over and over, by itself. Downstairs in the tattoo parlor Richie’s keys would move around on him.  The door leading to the kitchen was also in the habit of repeatedly opening and closing itself.

Once Richie had a run in with a previous occupant of the funeral home.  Richie was upstairs and saw an elderly man in a brown wool suit. The man proceeded to throw Richie down the stairs. Infuriated Richie bellowed, who do you think you are? The only response he got was the name Walter.

In life Richie worked from chair three in the tattoo parlor. After his death his friends would bring in new tattoo artists to work chair three, but none of the equipment would work. When the new management put in artists who had known and worked with Richie the equipment went back to functioning. This happened repeatedly. Richie seems to be picky about who uses his chair!

Ghost Lab Klinge Brothers2

Klinge Brothers

In only its second week, GHOST LAB bested its household numbers from its series premiere last week, going from .79 HH to 1.11 HH, a 41% increase. GHOST LAB also saw a big bump in M18-34 with a whooping 87% increase from last week, +47% for M18-49 and 28% higher P25-54.
GHOST LAB follows brothers Brad and Barry Klinge as they take their mobile lab on the road to uncover the truth behind Americas most haunted sites.

From a music hall where Elvis is believed to have never left the building to Civil War battlefields where the fallen are still heard, Brad and Barry employ the latest technology to research the supernatural and separate fact from fiction.

Psychic Medium Lynne Olson Reviews Ghost Lab Tombstone Episode

Ghost Lab got some interesting results when they investigated Tombstone, Arizona. Not surprisingly their first investigation was the Birdcage Theatre. Ghost Lab had some different results than Ghost Adventures when they focused on the Birdcage Theatre earlier this year.

Birdcage employee and barkeep Nova showed the Klinge brothers and their team around the theatre. She reviewed the well known claims of disembodied voices, unexplained sound, phantom music and laughter.

Brad and Barry thought they might have seen a shadow moving but debunked it as how the wall the shadow appeared against was painted.

During their first EVP session the Klinge brothers were in the Birdcage ballroom. They smelled cigar smoke near an old gaming table and caught a class A EVP saying, “choose”. I had the impression that EVP was an imprint from a long past heated card game where someone loosing was dithering over their cards too long to suit one of the other men at the table.

The second EVP session resulted in a lot of static, similar to that you would hear on a wonky PA system. Everyday Paranormal didn’t pick up any EVP’s but I heard a pattern in the static that had a voice in it. What I heard in the static was, “Move on. Now.” over and over.

Nova was in the back room sleeping and the Klinge boys woke her up. She was positive that there was no electricity supplied to the static laden, screechy speaker. She further observed that although unexplained static did periodically come out of that speaker she had never heard it so loud before.

Brad got up on a ladder to see if he could determine if the speaker was wired or not. At that point the noise got much louder and persistent. It reduced and then stopped when Brad climbed down and the crew left the ballroom.

I was somewhat surprised to find that the ghost of the old theatre manager I first saw on the Ghost Adventures episode at the Birdcage Theatre was the one behind the static, screeching speaker during the Ghost Lab investigation. He was even more territorial this time around. He was wearing the same outfit I saw him in the first time featuring a gorgeous black silk vest with silver embroidery. He told me his name was Antonio, which was confirmation of my original impression that he was Italian.

Professional Medium Lynne Olson reviews premiere episode of Ghost Lab

Disturbing the Peace

ghost-lab5

The Klinge Brothers.

I was impressed with Ghost Lab’s team of brothers Brad and Barry Klinge co-founders of Everyday Paranormal. First stop in the series premiere was the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisina where early rock and roll royalty such as Elvis got their start.  It remains an active civic space, but it’s hey day was in the 1950’s as the home of KWKH live radio show the “Louisiana Hayride”.

Past employee experiences include disembodied voices and the upper balcony door leading into the ballroom opening and closing on it’s own. An interior hallway sporting an encased fire hose seemed to be another hot spot in the past and during Ghost Lab’s investigation.

The show was careful to define what the assorted measuring gadgets did and what the jumble of letters such as EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena heard taped/recorded but not at time of interaction) and VP (Voice Phenomena, disembodied voices talking to investigators in real time) The Data Loggers that combine EMF (Electromagnetic Field fluctuations) and temperature changes was a nice little convergence tool.

Most of the activity the team found happened between the upper balcony and the ballroom. Brad and Barry where in the upper ballroom asking the ghosts to make contact when there was a loud creaking noise, like a door opening. Turned out to be the balcony door mentioned earlier in other eyewitness accounts. Although they didn’t have video of the door opening on it’s own they did have visual documentation that it was closed when they entered the ballroom and opened on it’s own when nobody was remotely close enough to open it from the other side. When the brothers moved the door in question it replicated the squeaky, in need of oil sounds they had heard a few moments earlier. The door was solid and heavy. Team member Katie had been firmly closed and tested the tight fit prior to the ballroom investigation.

An interesting class A (no digital enhancement needed) EVP showed up around this time saying, “They saw the light.” in an amused male voice. Ghost Lab had team member Steve Harris duplicate the phrase in the same location it was first recorded and compared the frequencies between the ghostly comment and that of Steve Harris. The  EVP frequency was visibly and significantly different than that of Steve Harris’s human voice.  An EMF reading taken at the time this EVP happened showed a six fold increase in electromagnetic fluctuations than the baseline taken in the same spot earlier in the evening. That lent some credibility that EMF changes denote the presence of paranormal activity since they got a Class A EVP at the same time.

I loved the fact they did baseline readings in an effort to apply the scientific method to ghost hunting.

Era Cues as a form of provoking ghostly activity is a more formal development of what Zak often does on Ghost Adventures. I thought it was rather brilliant to bring in a band to play 50’s era rockabilly music in an attempt to bring up the energy of the location to a similar pitch that would mimic what happened there during the golden age of the auditorium.  The idea being raising the energy with era appropriate cues and recreations it would energize the spirits to more action than usual.  Once the live musical number was over the stage door shut itself.  Ashley and Katie were in the side hallway asking the ghosts to touch them. One obliged by poking Katie. This felt like friendly teasing, “If that is what you want…”

Although this didn’t happen in the show as the bands music started filling up the space right before the stage door opened and closed itself with some force I felt a male presence who would have liked to do more. I saw images of both a sandbag dropping from some height and the curtain coming down a lot faster than any stage hand would have wanted.  He felt frenzied, don’t know why but the music upset him and he wanted it to stop.
