Syfy orders six, one-hour episodes of the new unscripted series School Spirits from executive producers Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Apprentice) and Seth Jarrett (Celebrity Ghost Stories). The project will tell true ghost stories of hauntings that have happened at schools across the country.

The stories will be told in first person narratives through the testimonials of real students, teachers, parents and staff that have encountered the paranormal activity, blended with bone-chilling cinematic reenactments to further bring the haunting experiences to life.

“School hauntings are some of the most terrifying first-hand accounts. The stories that have terrified generations of students and teachers are not for the faint-of-heart,” said Mark Stern, President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions. “With Mark and Seth as executive producers, we look forward to delivering another gripping paranormal series for our viewers.”

Mark Burnett joins forces with Seth Jarrett, creator of the hit series Celebrity Ghost Stories, to take viewers on a spooky thrill ride through some of the most infamously haunted colleges, universities and high schools nationwide. Students, alumni, and faculty share their intimate paranormal campus encounters, while their experiences are brought to life in Jarrett’s arresting style of storytelling.

Billy Ray and Trace Cyrus

Music superstar Billy Ray Cyrus signs with Syfy and NBC’s Peacock Productions for development on a weekly reality series, UFO: Unbelievably Freakin’ Obvious, in which Cyrus and his 21-year-old son, Trace, investigate the conspiracy theories that abound around unexplained activity and paranormal phenomena. The project pairs the skeptical Cyrus with his conspiracy-theorist son, and together the two amateur sleuths journey to uncover hidden secrets and obtain untold firsthand accounts.

“Our audience craves authentic, compelling and informative storytelling that pushes the boundaries of our normal world,” said Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions. “Allegations of cover-up and conspiracy around unexplained phenomena has inspired heated debate for decades, and it will be interesting to see what truth Billy Ray and Trace may discover.”

Each episode will feature the father and son on cross-country trips that will usually find them traversing America’s back roads on their quest for the truth. Trace’s best friend, dubbed “Silent Franky,” will feed the father and son with important data from his computer workstation set up in his parent’s basement. Cyrus and Trace are going to need all the help they can get as they attempt to crack the government code surrounding a wide range of potential cover-ups, from political controversies to the existence of alleged creatures to eerie occurrences that have long been in question. The series will dig deep into the venerable mysteries of paranormal existence and try to uncover the facts – and perhaps finding the truth to be more obvious than one thinks.

A&E Network has ordered a documentary pilot from prolific producer and director Doug Limon (The Bourne Ultimatum, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Swingers) titled “The Unexplained,” which will focus on strange phenomena and paranormal experiences.

“The Unexplained,” Liman’s first foray into non scripted television, uses his world renowned storytelling and filmmaking expertise to deliver real-life stories that take audiences to places they have never been before: investigating, questioning, experiencing and chasing down answers to the most bizarre stories and strangest paranormal occurrences. Possible topics for the series are past life regressions, real-life hauntings, near-death and out-of-body experiences and other chilling personal encounters. These are first-person emotional stories of life, death and the possible in-between that have never been told.

In the pilot, a five year-old boy from rural Oklahoma begins telling his mother extensive details about his past life. He says he lived in Hollywood during the 1930′s, claiming to have been wealthy and having friendships with the likes of Rita Hayworth. After hearing her son give vivid details about an era no five year-old should know about, the mother checks out some library books about early Hollywood. When she showed her son the books, he paused on a page with a black and white film still that had no captions. Much to her surprise, her son points to a man in the photo and screams, “That’s me! You found me mommy! That’s me, and that’s George!” The man he was pointing to was an actor and “George” later turned out to be George Raft in Paramount’s 1932 film “Night After Night”. This is the amazing story of a young family’s emotional journey to unravel and understand what they believe to be their son’s previous life identity.
