Final Episode, Featuring Ryan Buell and PRS, Airs Monday, May 2, 2011
Over five years ago, Penn State student and Paranormal Research Society club founder Ryan Buell and the rest of his team filmed the first episode for “Paranormal State.” A lot has changed since then.
All of the core members of “State” have long since graduated from Penn State. The organization is now a private organization. After five successful seasons and a total of 84 episodes airing on A&E to millions of people, Buell & co. have decided to step down from the series to pursue other adventures.
On May 2nd, A&E will broadcast their final episode, and the rest will be history.
Buell announced via his personal blog in January that he would not be returning to “State.” Immediately following his announcement, the rest of PRS, as well as series regulars such as Michelle Belanger and Chad Calek, also announced their departures.
The main reason for walking away from “State” was due to creative differences, exhaustion and to free up time in order to pursue other projects.
“It was an amazing run,” said Buell, who started working on the TV show project when he was 22. “Who else can say they starred and produced in a successful TV series for five seasons? We started this while we were in college!”
Buell is currently preparing for a 40-city film screening tour for the movie, “American Ghost Hunter,” as well as working on a few different book projects.
Many online fans have asked if the end of “State” also means the end for PRS, which Buell and other members stress is far from happening. “If anything, now that we have more time, PRS is going to be way more active,” said Eilfie Music, who’s been with PRS since 2001. PRS, which is still headquartered in State College, Pa., will celebrate its 10th anniversary on September 16th, 2001.
A&E owns the name Paranormal State and by rights has the ability to do whatever they wish with the name. Paranormal State: The New Class will be continuing on with the name, however, they have no association with the Paranormal Research Society, their investigation techniques, contacts, cases or otherwise.

I have been away from home and upon returning, I began looking for Paranormal States and to my disappointment, just found out the news about Ryan, whom we have grown to just love, is not returning. I know we all move on and I wish him the best. May God help him, guide him, and protect him in his endeavors. We will be looking for him for future projects. God bless you for all your help, compassion and support to humanity. Be well.
[...] Ryan Buell stated creative differences, exhaustion and other projects as his main reason for leaving. You can read his full explanation here. [...]
Hi, I am deaf. As I was searching for Paranormal State. Bummer! I was expecting these new espiodes will come back but very sadly. This is one of the best films makes stand out and very reality than any rest of t.v., such as a Ghost Hunter, Destination Truth, GHI, etc. Ryan Buell is a very outstanding for come true on television. I pray and hope he will think about return near future especially Ryan Buell, the “boss”!
Very disappointment. Good Luck with you all and may your future get brighter and smarter. Be well and take care!
It is unfortunate Ryan and The Crew will no longer be conducting these investigations in the future. I know my daughter and myself will no longer watch this show. Do not like The New Class. Hope to see more of Mr. Buell and his original crew in future projects. Thank you for the years you have given. My daughter is so unhappy that they will no longer be on PRS. Work out the creative differences, get some rest and COME BACK!!!
Ryan, thank you and your team for all that you have taught us. What has always impressed me so much is your concern for the dead who have no one to pray for them. God has gifted you and will continue to lead you on. May He bless all of you! In Jesus and Mary, Linda
I agree with Linda. I loved how Ryan had a true concern for the souls he encountered. Some of the other shows don’t have the higher knowledge or respect for those who have passed over that Ryan and his crew did. Best wishes to all of you!
I really looked forward every week to watch the show. I’m sad it wouldn’t be returning. I hope the future will bring Ryan, back to T.V. Best wishes to the crew on their journeys! Heidi
Best wishes Ryan and staff~~ You will be greatly missed. There are very few shows that I am interested in following. Paranormal State was my favorite. Ryan, this is only the beginning of your life’s journey, I wish you well . I am looking forward to the next time I can enjoy something that you sink your heart and soul into..Thank you for the past years!!!
Really going to miss Ryan and his crew on Paranormal State. It was the first show that addressed issues of good vs evil in life. Some thing I have a firm belief in. I believe it turned nonbelievers in to believers. Such a smart young man well beyond his years I wish him many blessings! Hopefully, he will find other outlets to continue to educate the world on this subject. Great job he should be proud!
My husband and myself will miss you and your team dearly we have followed your show and enjoyed it very much. We will miss you and your team very much. Hopefully you and your team will come out with something else we can enjoy as much as we have enjoyed Paranormal State. God Bless
Ryan,I am so sorry to see you and the team leave us I already watch each epiisode two or three times, so I guess this will have to do. I have learned a lot from your show and am so proud of someone like you who chooses a path in life and follows it. I’m an older viewer and don’t tweet or do facebook or blog, please let us hear from you, somehow.I know I’m not the only one. I wish you well in whatever direction you choose.,
Maybe it could be in the form of an e:mail Thanks for the pleasure you have brought me and I wish you the best.
All things must change and, alas, this is one of them. I have laughed and cried and been scared out of my wits while watching every single episode, numerous times.
My family has come to feel as if we know Ryan, Eilfie, Katrina, Sergey, Chad and Michele as if they were our own personal friends. We are very sad to see you go, but there are bigger and brighter things ‘out there’ for each of you.
We will be watching “The New Class” and re-runs of Paranormal State, no matter how many times we have seen them.
We have learned so much and have had so many wonderful discussions regarding spirituality and what lies beyond, all due to the thought provoking nature of your show.
We wish Ryan and Crew the very best, we wish you faith and strength as you battle your Demons, the same as we battle ours in our everyday lives. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and you are in our prayers,
Be Well In All Things,
Susi & Randy McDavid
Ryan,
I pray that you will have a good life. Your demon can not touch you or interfer with you life. All must yeld to the name JESUS CHRIST our LORD, NEVER FORGET THAT. Your faith in this is your anchor and thru the infilling of the HOLY GHOST you can over come anything! Jesus Christ left us with this His Comforter in the Upper Room; to give us the whole armor of GOD!
Thank you for reminding us that no power is greater. GOD has already won all your battles for you, stand on this truth. We are all Children of the King! NEVER FORGET THAT!
OMG! I just read that Ryan and his team will not be back and I am heart broken! I have grown to love all of you over the yrs of watching paranormal state and I am very sad over it. I know you have to move on in life and have other things to do but it would be great to see you back on t.v. later down the road when you are rested. You all made that a great show and I want to thank you all for making my nights, I really have learned a lot by watching. May God be with you all and may you be blessed in what
oop! something went wrong, i was not finished, must be my ghost messing with my computer again! Anyways I hope you are blessed in what ever else you all do and I hope you all stay happy. God Bless you all and you will be missed very much! Take Care
my name was wrong too!
I loved watching every episode. You and your team are very BRAVE and very talented at what you do. I will surely miss your show and at the same time, I am happy that you are pursuing whatever your hearts desire. I don’t think you are carazy for doing what you do. I myself have came into contact with the “unknown” and have experienced paranormal activity. People used to think that I was crazy myself but I feel that you would be a person who would understand my situation. Even though I don’t know you personally, I have felt like a connection with you because of the investigations that you would do and I am very sad to see you go. But, I hope that everything turns out great for you and your team.
God bless,
Amanda
