Dave Tango Talks Tourette’s, Benefit Dinner and New Ghost Guide Role

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Aaron Sagers

Dave Tango is well known for his ghost hunting fame, but it’s fitting the Linden, NJ, native is a trained illusionist since his life these past four years has been filled with magic. But it’s no trick. At 24, Tango has transitioned from prestidigitation to paranormal investigation and taken the lead on the new cable show Ghost Hunters Academy despite his lifelong battle with Tourette Syndrome, a disease which he’s raising awareness for with a benefit dinner in Westfield, NJ, this Sunday.

Ghost Hunters Academy, airing Wednesdays at 10 p.m., EST, on the Syfy channel, is the latest spinoff of Ghost Hunters, the paranormal reality-TV series that draws about three million viewers each week. Recruited by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, co-founders of the Rhode Island-based group TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), around which Ghost Hunters is based, Tango has been with the main show since Season Two in 2005.  But what began as an “investigator-in-training” position led to a regular investigator title and now to his leadership role on “Academy,” where he’s training young cadets to be ghost hunters.

Along with friend and fellow investigator Steve Gonsalves, 34, Tango travels the country in an R.V. with five Academy recruits to haunted hot spots. Since the Nov. 11 premiere, the team has visited the Eastern State Penitentiary and the Revolutionary War landmark Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia, and the battleship USS North Carolina in Wilmington, N.C. So far Tango’s new endeavor is already showing signs of being a hit after debuting with 2.07 million total viewers, making it Syfy’s most successful reality series premiere in nearly two years.

Tango says the real success isn’t judged by ratings but by the help he can provide to scared owners of haunted locations, and by the awareness he can raise for sufferers of the neurological disorder. Tango will do the latter by joining his father Bruce, a former Elizabeth police officer, for the third annual benefit for the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome on Nov. 29 at the Temple Emanu-EL in Westfield. Featuring performances by comedian Kevin Meaney and singer Kristen Sellers, Tango will appear at the event with Ghost Hunter pals Gonsalves, Dustin Pari and Joe Chin.

While taking a break from leading an investigation with fans at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum in St. Augustine, Fla., Tango sat down to discuss the paranormal, leadership duties and growing up with Tourette Syndrome. For a young guy experiencing so much success, Tango is remarkably grounded and gracious, and most of what he says includes an element of self-effacing humor.

Q: How did a magician from New Jersey get on a hit cable show, and then eventually get his own series?

TANGO: I had my own little group in Jersey and we contacted TAPS because we had a place that had potential. They came and let me and a friend be a guest on an episode. I just got along with everyone, and two weeks later I got a call and they asked if I wanted to give it a trial run … I haven’t messed up since then, I guess!

Q: I guess not. So what is the purpose of Academy?

TANGO: Our mission to find the next ghost hunter for one of our shows.  It’s a tedious process … it’s really important because we’re showing how different it [paranormal investigating] is from the show. They’ll see Ghost Hunters and think we’re just in a place for 20 minutes because that’s what they see on TV. We’re in there for hours and hours. It’s really nitty gritty, and you sit down and stare.

Thursday, November 19th

Beyond the human ear..

The EVP you will hear in this clip, was taken from the RPM Paranormal Broadcast just 2 Tuesdays ago, we experienced technical difficulties, and could not play the other EVPs sent to us by the Constantinos upon that broadcast..since that time, we have been in contact with Gian Temperilli, (Gian’s Myspace: http://www.myspace.co… ) which most of you will rememeber from “The Temperilli Hauntings” airing upon this channel ‘Haunted House’..and as the Constantino’s took a personal intrest in Gian’s family experiences, it was our good fortune to be honored with them as our guest.

Now as they once again bless us with another show, we will complete not only the EVP’s we didn’t play upon that fateful Tuesday, but further share even more of them right here, upon the Radio Rod Channel ( http://www.blogstar.c… ) this upcoming Thursday night at 5:40pm upon the BlogStar clock.. (Thats Pacific Time).. :-)

I’m looking forward to the show, the interviews and the evps..but frankly, Radio Rod has to admit, he isn’t a big fan of dolls, at least the kind that talk, without the use of a string.. LOL..

Until that time.. Keep Searching/Keep Finding.. Keep Sharing.

Supernatural Spirits Afflict Victims Through Paranormal Pets in Animal Planet’s Eerie New Series, The Haunted

Owners Tell of Their Frightening, Real-life Hauntings Beginning November 22

Tales of ghosts and supernatural beings haunt the dreams of children and inspire peculiar horror films and books, but what if you found yourself trapped in the middle of your own ghost story? What if your home had been the scene of a terrifying fire 100 years ago? Or your basement had been used for violent and deadly experiments? What if you discovered unexplainable bloody handprints on the walls around your baby’s crib? And what if you didn’t know these things had happened but the animals around you did? Welcome to the eerie world of THE HAUNTED, Animal Planet’s newest original, 10-part series.

Premiering Sunday, November 22, at 10 PM ET/PT, THE HAUNTED takes an intimate look at stories of people whose animals act as mediaries to the afterworld. Often the subjects of the most intense paranormal hauntings, animals are commonly believed to be more sensitive to spirits than people. Think of them as canaries in the paranormal coalmines. But when spirits afflict pets, the animals aren’t the only victims. Owners also fall prey to paranormal activity and will often stop at nothing to rid their homes and pets of paranormal spirits.

When the hauntings become too intense, paranormal investigation teams are called in to examine and record the eerie and unexplainable events. The team members are experienced paranormal sleuths who study each haunting in order to make sense of and understand the strange smells, sights, sounds and behaviors. Investigators record voices and photograph odd presences using equipment ranging from ghost boxes to Electro Magnetic Field readers which record sounds and capture ghostly images so shocking they are hard to believe.

Episodes of THE HAUNTED include intense tales of bizarre behavior, records of disturbing disappearances and unexpected deaths. One frightening investigation leads a family to an exorcism in a desperate attempt to abolish the evil demons that afflict them and their family dog. In another harrowing tale, after months of mysterious behavior from the family dog, a mother and father discover unexplainable blood smeared on the wall in their infant’s room. What do you believe? And what would you do?

Beginning Sunday, November 22 through December 20, THE HAUNTED airs at 10 PM ET/PT. The series takes a break during the holiday season and resumes Sunday, January 3 through January 31 in the 8 PM time slot.

Paranormal Cops

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

“Paranormal Cops” follows a group of larger-than-life cops who walk one beat during the day as real-life Chicago-area police officers and another at night when they apply their forensic and investigative expertise to paranormal casework. Responding to the pleas of ordinary people who are victimized by distressing and inexplicable activities in their homes and workplaces, as well as taking cases from their day jobs when called upon, these cops bring their no-nonsense approach to hunting ghosts and real-life police skills to separate the fact from fiction – and often happen upon results much scarier than the paranormal.
